The perfect wedding starts with a flawless invitation

The Ultimate Goal

Creating an application that allow soon-to-be newlyweds to design their dream wedding invitations, obtain price quotes from printing houses, print the invitations, and have them delivered to their home – all from the comfort of their home."

The Challenge

It was important for me to identify the biggest pain points for soon-to-be newlyweds when creating and printing wedding invitations. To do so, I prepared a survey and distributed it amongst several groups whose membership base consisted primarily of recently-married couples.
The goal of the survey was to establish the most difficult steps in creating and printing wedding invitations. Insights gathered from the survey would ultimately guide product design and ensure that my solution truly spoke to the needs of couples preparing wedding invitations.

“Too many old fashioned designs were presented to me that I did not like. It took me tons of time to find the design I wanted, and many more attempts to make it look how I imagined it in my head.”

“We weren’t familiar with any printing presses, and had to rely on recommendations from other married couples we knew. Unfortunately their recommendations were far from our house.”

Personas

The survey results indicated a few common patterns among the respondents — out of this, “Tamar” was created. She would represent the key traits of the majority of my target market. “Tamar” provided insight into what my potential users are thinking and feeling in every step of the wedding invitation process. “She” allowed me to build empathy into everything from the specific features, interface, and user journey itself.

Onboarding Flow
The screenshot workflow below explains to the user how the application works, and how it simplifies the process of creating and printing wedding invitations.

Home Screen — Choose an Invitation
A variety of pre-designed invitation templates are available to the user. They can filter invitations according to wedding theme, keyword, price, color scheme, and more.
From here, the user is guided through a simple four-step process — from customizing the design all the way to selecting a supplier / print house.

Step One — Designing the Invitation
After selecting a base design to start from, the user is prompted to customize the design to suit their special day.
The user can edit various aspects like font type, color scheme, the order of design elements, and much more.

Step Two — Select a Paper Type
After editing the design, the user can then select several options for wedding stationary paper from a catalog. At the end, they’ll be able to make side-by-side comparisons of their selections and decide on the best paper for their invitations.

Step Three — Add Extras
If the user chooses, they can then add “extra” items to their invitations to spice it up with additional style and glamour. Once an extra item is added, the price of the order will adjust accordingly, with the user being updated of these changes.

Upon completion of the invitation design, the user receives a detailed preview of their invitation. This will give them a good idea of how their invitation and envelope will appear in-person.

Step Four — Select a Supplier
In the final step, the user selects from a list of suppliers and print houses in their area. They can filter according to reviews & ratings, price range, or search for a specific print house themselves.
